Hello again from Jim and Julie’s Wabaskang Camp. Week 13 of our 2026 season was a great week of fishing and wonderful weather. Many of our guests did exceptionally well walleye fishing this week. Most fish were caught on the deep weed edges or on humps in deeper water close to 20’ or better. A jig and minnow worked as well as anything this week. White or blue jigs were the top colors according to my guests. Nick Heuer wandered into a 24 1/2″ fish, Jon Heuer caught an impressive 26 1/2″ walleye between naps. Keith Christensen made a return to camp after a few years’ absence, and he caught a chunky 26″ walleye. Marty Neihouser and Carla Mulder both caught 28″ walleyes, Kevin Halla landed a giant 29″ walleye his first day in camp this season and him winning a hat looked rather good until Gaylen Mulder came along and crushed Kevin’s fish with a massive 30 3/4″ trophy walleye.
Northern fishing had good days and slow days this week. Many big pike are roaming the deep open water following huge schools of bait fish around and are easy targets if you’re casting a large crank bait or giant plastic bait. Nick Heuer reported catching a 36 1/2″ northern with the helpful guiding of brother Brandon. Keith Christenson caught a chunky 36″ pike, Brianna Luecke and Gaylen Mulder both landed trophy 39″ pike this week. Carla Mulder was the top pike angler in camp this week, her 41 1/2″ northern was a hat winner.
Bass fishing was good again this week with most fish being caught on crank baits or soft bodied tube baits. Brandon ” The Guide” Heuer caught a chunky 18 1/4″ bass, Finley Fober caught an impressive 19″ bass. Tim Wuethrich and Paul Luecke both reported catching 20″ bass, but Tim’s fish was reported to us first so too bad so sad for Paul.
No crappies or trout to report this week.
Remember to have clean and dry boats when entering Canada as the border officials are very concerned about invasive species entering Ontario waters. Bring us a copy of your fishing license when you arrive so we will have it available if the MNR wants to review it. The Whiskey Jack Restaurant is only a few minutes away and offers the best barbecue in NW Ontario, stop in and let Laura and Graham do the cooking, after all you are on vacation.
